"A life purpose is not a point in time and space; it is not a goal or something to do. Feeling whole and complete would not come from any action, IT IS THE PATH ITSELF AND ANY STEP TAKEN IN IT. The deepest part of it lays in the magic of being present, resting and fully BEING in ALL there is. Free to be your true nature."- Homaya Amar from www.homayaamar.com
Homaya Amar is a Shaman and teacher of a good friend of mine. She is right on when she says that a life purpose is not a goal or something to do. Do you make goals and DO things while living your life purpose however? Yes of course. That is part of the path itself. It would be nice if we could all lay around 'just being' all the time, but that's not what being in our life purpose is about. It requires some effort, but if we're truly living in our purpose it won't feel like hard work. It will feel joyful, light, and in tune with who you are on a deep level.
For many years I struggled with what living on purpose really meant for me. Was it following all of my passions in a row? Was it following love? Was it listening to experts and teachers and reading books on being enlightened? I wasn't sure. So I tried all of those things. And more. My adventures have led me to many countries and beautiful people, many life lessons learned the hard way, health complications and reevaluation of my beliefs. But that's just life for a creative person. There is a distinct difference between doing your passions and being passionate. While I advocate for both I can feel the difference when I am running around doing my passions versus being inside the feeling of passion. This 'just being' has engulfed me while sitting on a porch in Montana watching the sunset, while dancing on a small island in Thailand, while listening to clients in a coaching group, while sitting in silence in Quaker meeting. And you have experienced it too- that moment when everything just seems to click, when it 'just felt right', when you didn't doubt a decision you made and fell asleep with no worries. That is the feeling I hope to expand for more people on the planet.
When I was a toddler I was very, very headstrong. My first words- no lie- were "Gracie do!" Which meant, "I'll do it myself and if you try to help me I will scream!!" I have always been a kinesthetic learner, someone who had to do something herself to truly learn it. And so I did. And I will probably continue to do, because it is my nature. But the beauty in growing up and living all those lessons firsthand is that eventually I learned to BE. I'm still learning to be, every day. To be me, to do me, to live inside my passion, to be my purpose, to be the change I wish to see in the world, as Gandhi said.
Living Life Purpose is not something that you arrive at; it is not the goal. It is the entire journey, who you are in each moment, how you express, how you feel inside your body. It is saying yes to the Real you, the Deep you, the You no one else can see, the You you think they'll judge. How that looks and feels for you will be different than how it looks and feels for anyone else. And that's a beautiful thing.

Gracie
